Sarah Spitler

“Inveterate Detritus (Something Forgotten Known Only To Ourselves)”

“Manifest Primordial Destiny”

I really like Sarah Spitler’s paintings. She works mostly with ink, acrylic, enamel and spray paint, and I think she does it beautifully. This excerpt from her artist statement does a wonderful job of explaining why I gravitated towards her work.

I enjoy the emergence of fragments of imagery in relation to a destructive force – they become reduced and ephemeral, they are representative of the momentary and transient. However, according to the scientific study of chaos, it is the minute and transient that manifest as larger factors, further down in the equation, in the study of matter.
